Glossary: What is Static-free Flooring?

Static-free flooring is a type of flooring used to protect electronic equipment. It does this by eliminating static charges in the workplace. Many types of businesses use this type of flooring to protect their sensitive equipment. These include electronics manufacturing and handling facilities, critical call centers, flight towers, government offices, PSAPs, IT rooms, financial institutions and many others. Static-free flooring (also referred to as ESD or antistatic flooring) works by drawing static charges away from people and moving objects and dissipates charges to ground. Alone or used with static-control (ESD) footwear, static-free flooring also prevents static generation in the first place.
