What is Conductive Flooring?
Conductive flooring is a static-control flooring system engineered to provide lower electrical resistance (<1x10E6 ohms), allowing static charges to flow quickly and directly to ground.
“Conductive” refers to a material with electrical resistance measuring below 1.0 × 10⁶ ohms, when tested with an ohmmeter. An ohmmeter measures the electrical resistance across the surface of ESD tiles (Rtt) or through the thickness of the tile to ground (Rtg). Testing methods are defined in industry standard ANSI/ESD STM 7.1.
Why Choose Conductive Flooring?
Maximum Static Control Performance
Conductive flooring provides the fastest, most direct path to ground—minimizing charge buildup in mission-critical electronics environments.
Ideal for Manufacturing & Component Handling
With resistance below 1.0 × 10⁶ ohms, conductive flooring is typically specified for electronics manufacturing, cleanrooms, assembly areas, and other process-driven spaces where ESD control footwear and grounding systems are used.
Standards-Driven Compliance
Conductive flooring supports compliance with ESD control programs such as ANSI/ESD S20.20. In manufacturing environments where grounding protocols are formalized and monitored, conductive floors provide measurable and predictable performance.
Designed for Process-Critical Environments
Unlike people-centric office spaces, manufacturing facilities rely on full-system grounding — including wrist straps, footwear, and continuous monitoring. Conductive flooring works as part of that engineered ESD control system.
Long-Term Electrical Stability
Engineered for durability and consistent resistance values over time, conductive flooring maintains performance under heavy traffic, carts, and equipment loads.

Highlights: Choosing the right electrical resistance for your application
For Electronics Manufacturing & Handling Applications:
Refer to ANSI/ESD S20.20 and choose flooring that measures below 1.0 × 10E9 ohms in ESD-protected areas (EPAs) within electronics manufacturing and handling facilities.
For Highly Sensitive Components & Cleanrooms:
In ultra-sensitive Class-0 spaces and other environments handling sensitive microelectronics, semiconductors, or circuit board assembly, conductive flooring provides fast, reliable static mitigation as part of a controlled ESD flooring system.
When to Specify Static-dissipative Flooring
In environments where occupants do not wear ESD footwear — such as call centers, PSAPs, flight towers, financial institutions, and other end-user spaces — static dissipative flooring may be more appropriate.

Conductive FlooringFrequently Asked Questions
Are conductive and static dissipative flooring the same?
No — both are ESD flooring, but they differ in electrical resistance and the rate at which static charges move to ground.
- Conductive flooring measures below 1.0 × 10⁶ ohms and moves charge quickly.
- Static dissipative flooring measures between 1.0 × 10⁶ and <1.0 × 10⁹ ohms and slows the discharge more gradually.
The correct choice depends on the environment and applicable standard.
Isn’t lower resistance always better?
Not necessarily. Lower resistance provides faster discharge, but in environments without ESD footwear and grounding systems, it may not be appropriate. Flooring should align with the full ESD control plan.
How do I know if my facility requires conductive flooring?
Review your ESD control program and applicable standards, such as ANSI/ESD S20.20. Manufacturing and assembly facilities with formal grounding protocols often require conductive flooring.
Do conductive floors require special maintenance?
Conductive flooring requires routine maintenance to preserve both surface durability and electrical properties. Proper cleaning protocols help maintain long-term resistance performance.
Can conductive flooring handle heavy equipment?
Yes. Conductive epoxy and tile systems are engineered to withstand forklifts, rolling carts, and manufacturing equipment while maintaining electrical continuity.
